Esophageal Cancer Stent

Esophageal cancer is a devastating and regrettably common disease in developing world. In advanced stages patients need palliative care to restore esophageal patency. This is done by inserting a esophageal stent. However current stents are difficult to place and too expensive for patients in developing world. Working with physicians at MOI University Teaching Hospital, Purdue is developing and testing a low-cost stent that can be easily and safely inserted into esphagus providing needed relief to suffering patients.
